When it comes to learning for me I have realized that the best way for me to retain infomation is repition. This is what works best for me and it is what I use when I have a quiz or test. When I am studying for a test of quiz I will repeat the information and fact to myself over and over. I will do this untill I can remember the information without haveing to look at my textbook or my notes. Sometimes I will do this and then have someone quiz me on the information that I have been studying. If I didn't do this the I would have a harder time remembering the information from my class lectures or anything I've read from my textbooks. Another way that helps me when learning is writing. During class lectures I take notes of all the information that is written on the board, as well as anything that I know may be hard for me to remember and anything that the professor says will be on the quizes or exams. When I get home I often rewrite my notes. Before I take an exam I usually take time to rewrite my notes and quizes as well. This is a way that helps me learn because as I am rewriting my notes I am also using repition as I read myself the notes that I write.
Today in class we learned about two different types of motivation, Extrinsic and Intrinsic. I learned that extrinsic motivation is more external and comes from an outside source, while intrinsic motivation is more internal and is like a gut feeling or drive. It is like a voice inside your head that is motivetiong you. I think that some people need extrinsic motivation and may need reward systems to motivate them while some have that motivation they need within themselves and just need to have their work acknowledged is small ways. I think that the type of motivation that I use is intrinsic motivation. Though sometimes I like to be acknwledged for the things and the work that I do I don't really need people to make a big deal about it, set up a reward system or give me gifts for what I do to keep me motivated. For me I am driven by intrinsic motivation.
When I was growing up and now I have always tried to keep myself motivated. Getting good grades and doing well in everything I do from school, church and volunteer work has always been important to me. I motivated myself to do my best and never expected any rewards for it. Even though I would occasionally get something from my parents or grandma I never expected it or worked just to see if I would get anything. I worked hard because I knew that I needed to if I wanted to meet the goals that I had set for myself in life. It was the way I was brought up and it just what was expected of me and my brothers to always do our best. Thats how it has always been for me and I will continiue to always work that way. I don't need to be perfect and always get be the best or get and an A, I know my strenghts and weakness, but I always try my best. If I get a "B" at least I know I worked hard and tried my best to earn that B.
In my intelligence profile, the two categories that I am strongest in are Intrapersonal strength and verbal strength. This does reflect how I learn and it was interesting how this survey predicted that. I do work very well whenever I am alone and do things by myself, and I do agree that one of my strenghts is verbal strength, like writing and auditory learning.
